Chapter 1 Review

Well, we’ve reached the end of Chapter 1. What’d you think? Too Easy? Too Hard? Just right?

Let’s spend the next few minutes reviewing what we shot and learned in Chapter 1.

We started out shooting city windows. That one should have been the easiest of them all. All you had to do was take ten thoughtful pictures of different window styles in your city. While doing that assignment, you should have focused on how to get more than ten window styles in only ten pictures. This could have easily been done by going downtown and taking a group shot of several buildings. It also should have shown you that even something as small and as common as a window can be interesting and challenging to shoot..

Your second assignment involved taking pictures of red and yellow cars. The toughest part of this one was finding the cars. If you did that, you’ve already passed the assignment for the most part. It should have showed you that sometimes you have to search for something to shoot, but when you find it, it can be pretty rewarding.

I’m really not going to speak on your third assignment. You didn’t have to shoot anything. You just had to go back to your first assignment and narrow it down to five pictures. I’d be interested to know how you went about this though. You can discuss this in the Flickr Thread for this assignment.

Your fourth assignment involved shooting perspective shots of roads. It should have forced you to find a good focus point and a good road to shoot. How many of you included something else, like a sunset or moon in your picture?

For your final assignment in Chapter 1, you had to take three pictures of a street lamp. A close-up, a portrait of an entire street lamp and then a group shot. Did you have fun with this one? This one was probably the second easiest of them all.
