Hey! Welcome to the Self Assignments Blog! My goal for this blog is simple: To give people something to think about while shooting. Feel free to read through and try some of the assignments. If you'd like, you can put yourself through "Self-Assignments 101" or "SA101". It'll be challenging to your imagination, camera and your mind. Most importantly though, it'll be fun!

Assignment 1.4 - Long Roads, Short Roads : Big Roads, Small Roads

Why do we drive on the parkway, but park on the driveway?
I know, I know. It’s the oldest one in the book. Or, no, is the oldest Why is six afraid of seven? I don’t know.

Let’s roll….

Alright. This one has to do with perspectives.
Have you ever looked down a road that looks like it goes for a million miles and falls off the Earth? That’s perspective. So, in this one, you’re looking for only one image. One perspective image. It can be a road, a lake, a hallway, a pathway, the ocean….pretty much anything like that. Use your imagination…..if you don’t have one, you may want to look into some kind of hobby like math or something.

Before taking your picture, think about it. Think of a focus point, think of what the surroundings are. Do you have a sunset in the picture? What are you trying to say? What are the photo’s goals?

Take your picture. Upload it to Flickr, tag it with “SA101.1.4roads” and drop it into our Flickr group. I may make a contest out of this one……

This should make you look for something that people almost never see even though they are all around them. It’ll be a bit of a challenge, but it’ll be fun. Promise.

If you have any questions, you can ask them in the Flickr Discussion Thread for this assignment which can be found here.

Have fun!
Stay tuned for the next assignment!
